The Eva Solo Nutcracker has three pieces. The hammer is made of sturdy walnut and as a steel gripper attached to it so that the smooth hammer cannot slip out of your hand.
The nuts are cracked in a polished metal bowl that has high sides and a rounded base.
This minimises flying pieces of nut or shell and makes the nut easier target.

This rounded bowl then sits in a shock-absorbent rubber base, so the blow won't be transmitted to the surface below.
