iittala Aalto Vase 160mm, Clear
Few vases are so sought after by the design community. The original Aalto Vase with its distinctive curved sides was first designed by Alvar Aalto and released by iittala at the 1937 World Fair in Paris.
The shape is supposedly based on sketches playfully named “The Eskimo Woman’s Leather Breeches.” Aalto was also the son of a cartographer, and undoubtedly the Finnish archipelago had some influence on the designer.
The Aalto and Finlandia Vases are completely versatile, fabulous for the floral arrangement-challenged, as the flowers arrange themselves within the corners of the vase. Everything from tulips to branches look stunning in the Aalto collection.
Hand blown and crafted with pride by Finnish master glass blowers.
The clarity of the crystal on this piece means it can be used as a fruit bowl for small fruit, just imagine how stunning the vase would look filled with glossy red berries.
