Stelton Cylinda Line Salad Bowl

This salad bowl is quite large and deep. It has a flat base and the gorgeous mat-polish that will make the salad the centrepiece of your table.

The Stelton Cylinda-line product range was designed in the 1960's by the Danish architect Arne Jacobsen. The design idea for a range wholly inspired by a cylindrical shape was inspired by this forms even and aesthetically accurate lines.
Jacobsen also had the idea that the pieces should be formed totally 'in the round'; that is, the pieces should not have a joining seam, which would interrupt the aesthetic rhythm of the form and piece.

When the range was first designed however, there was not the technology on the market to produce a seamless Cylinda, so it was a number of years before the items in the range were produced commercially.
Thanks to the advance of technology, Jacobsen's designs have now been in production for a number of years, and the beauty of Jacobsen's first designs can be finally, fully and beautifully realised.

Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) was trained as a bricklayer and graduated from The Technical Society's school in 1924 and Copenhagen Art Academy 1927.
In 1928 he received the Academy's gold medal, but prior to this, when only 23, he was awarded a silver medal at the 1925 Paris World Exhibition - the first of numerous honours that became a natural accompaniment to his artistic activities, his untiring search and his brilliant conceptions, made manifest by many successes in competitions at home and abroad.
