Hanging NZ Bird, Little Spotted Kiwi / Kiwi Pukupuku
Kiwi Pukupuku is the smallest of the New Zealand native Kiwis. They lay the largest egg in ratio to their body weight.
In 1912, 7x Little Spotted Kiwis was intrdoduced onto Kapiti Island. They are the 'ancestors' of all the Little Spotted Kiwi now in the country. As after 1912 the rest of the Little Spotted Kiwis declined to zero due to dogs, rats and other predators.
The Kiwi was the New Zealand Bird of the Year in 2009.
