Description
13x5cm.This a New Zealand and native parakeet. It use to fly in large flocks around the country and often caused havoc in orchids. They are considered an 'at risk' native. This is mainly due to introduced pests, however in the1880's large flocks were shot by settlers. Currently the population is concentrated mainly on pest free islands around the country.
There is a mountain in the lower North Island name Paekakariki.
The kakariki won Bird of the Year in 2010.
This decoration is made of fabric, sequins, white beads and metallic threads. It is small and light enough to post put in a Christmas card.
