The Stewart Island Tokoeka is the largest of the Kiwi
New Zealand, Hanging Birds, Hanging NZ Sparkly Decorations
DescriptionThe Kiwi Tokoeka are formally recognized as two subspecies. The Stewart Island Kiwi Tokoeka, the largest kiwi in the world. And the Fiordland Kiwi Tokoeka which is larger than its geographical 'little sibling' the Haast Kiwi Tokoeka.
Although premonitory nocturnal the Stewart Island Kiwi Tokoeka is often seen out and about during daylight hours. Both parents incubate the egg for a total of 70 to 80 days. The Stewart Island Kiwi Tokoeka also holds the prize of the most populous Kiwi at apx 15,000 birds, its conservation status is At Risk / Naturally Uncommon. Both Hasst Kiwi Tokoeka and the Fiordland Kiwi Tokoeka conservation status is Threatened / Nationally Vulnerable.
The Kiwi was voted New Zealand Bird of the Year in 2009. However, the win was for the overall 'Kiwi tribe' not the Kiwi Tokoeka. Voting is in apx October/November every year and is always an exciting and heavily competed contest.
The Kiwi Tokoeka sparkly decoration was introduced in 2023.
This decoration is made of fabric, sequins, beads and coloured metallic threads. It is nice and light for posting. If you need to send them internationally, we can do it for you. Handy information - The cost to send up to 10x NZ Bird sparkly decorations to the same international address is the same as sending 1x.
